Baseball Game Preview: Ayersville Pilots vs. Patrick Henry Patriots

The Ayersville Pilots will head out on the road to challenge the Patrick Henry Patriots at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Ayersville barely beat Hicksville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pilots never let the Aces get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Friday. The Pilots not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 11th (when they won 13-3).

Owen Lloyd made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ayersville is 5-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-10 otherwise. Lloyd was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Alex Sigler was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Ayersville: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-11 otherwise. Andrew Eschbach also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Patrick Henry came into Monday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Crestview on Monday.

Ayersville's record now sits at 10-12. As for Patrick Henry, their record is now 15-7-1.

Ayersville came up short against Patrick Henry in their previous matchup back in April, falling 5-1. Can the Pilots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
