Softball Preview: McIntosh Chiefs vs. Union Grove Wolverines

The McIntosh Chiefs will venture away from home to face off against the Union Grove Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Union Grove will be up against a hot McIntosh team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Chiefs put the hurt on Lovejoy with a sharp 16-1 victory on Thursday. With that win, the Chiefs brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Braley Roop was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Sanchez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

On the hitting side, Lauren Jordan was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ally Franklin, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

McIntosh's record now sits at 14-11. As for Union Grove, their record is now 14-4.

Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. McIntosh has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. However, it's not like Union Grove struggles in that department as they've averaged .533. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
