Football Recap: Pampa Comes Up Short

While it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Pampa was not quite Perryton's equal in the second half on Friday. They lost to the Rangers at home by a 49-35 margin. The Harvesters lost against the Rangers in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 49-7 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Pampa lost, don't look at Max Neff. Despite the final result, he rushed for 255 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. Neff really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run. Jose Alonzo got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Pampa, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Alonzo, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Leading Perryton to victory were Cooper Ryan Schilling and Isaac Arellano. Ryan Schilling rushed for 148 yards and three scores while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, while Arellano rushed for 132 yards and three TDs on only 13 carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Ryan Schilling a new career-high. Gordo Estrada was another key player, picking up 106 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Pampa's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Perryton, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pampa will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Hereford at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. As for Perryton, they will host Bushland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rangers are facing the Falcons at the right time seeing as the Falcons are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
