Softball Recap: Moffat County Takes a Loss

Moffat County dropped to 3-8 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Aspen Skiers, falling 22-7. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Skiers earlier this season, when they won 28-15.

Josie Terry stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Camila Nunez-Verdugo, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Aspen's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-6. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Aspen's side, Kahler Marsh was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs but no hits. Marsh was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Ainsley Loeb was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Emily Mavrovic was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs.

Coming up, Moffat County will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Cedaredge at 11:00 a.m. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 12.2 runs per game this season. As for Aspen, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 16-0 defeat against Meeker on the 25th.
