Soccer Recap: Rancho Buena Vista Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Rancho Buena Vista had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They never let the Pacific Ridge Firebirds get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. Given the Longhorns' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Firebirds are ranked 349th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lili Tavarez and Addie Rojas scored both of Rancho Buena Vista's goals, bringing their combined season tally to seven goals.

The victory made it two in a row for Rancho Buena Vista and bumps their season record up to 11-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those two contests. As for Pacific Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.

Looking ahead, Rancho Buena Vista will take on La Costa Canyon at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. La Costa Canyon will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Rancho Buena Vista surely won't give up without a fight. Pacific Ridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
