Softball Recap: Lincoln East Takes a Loss

After flying high against Omaha South on Wednesday, Lincoln East came back down to earth. The Spartans fell just short of the Papillion-LaVista Monarchs by a score of 6-4 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Spartans have suffered since September 25th.

Ella Pinkelman was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lucy Barrett made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Lainey Bednar, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Lincoln East's defeat dropped their record down to 19-14. As for Papillion-LaVista, they pushed their record up to 26-9 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Lincoln East didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 16-0 win against Omaha South on the 9th. Hopefully Papillion-LaVista paid attention to the Spartans' game: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
