Recap: Upper Perkiomen Indians vs. Pottsgrove Falcons

After soaring to 58 points the game before, the Upper Perkiomen Indians were a bit more limited in their match on Tuesday. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 35-22 loss to Pottsgrove. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Upper Perkiomen in their matchups with Pottsgrove: they've now lost three in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Upper Perkiomen lost, one person who can't be blamed is Erin States. Despite the final result, she scored 16 points. The game was States' fourth in a row with at least ten points.

Pottsgrove got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jessica Carroll out in front who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Carroll is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mikayla Eckman, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds.

Upper Perkiomen bumped their record down to 3-10 with that defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.5 points per game. As for Pottsgrove, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 4-7 record this season.

Upper Perkiomen will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Pope John Paul II at 6:00 p.m. As for Pottsgrove, they will head out on the road to face off against Upper Merion Area at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Upper Merion Area's defense has only allowed 28.9 points per game this season, so Pottsgrove's offense will have their work cut out for Pottsgrove.
