Football Game Preview: Hatch Valley Bears vs. New Mexico Military Institute Colts

The Hatch Valley Bears will head out on the road to take on the New Mexico Military Institute Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Hatch Valley hadn't beaten Cobre on the road since November 3, 2017 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Bears breezed past the Indians to the tune of 45-12. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-6.

David Dumas had a dynamite game, rushing for 114 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in October of 2024.

Dumas was just one part of a punishing run game: Hatch Valley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 301 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, New Mexico Military Institute never let their opponents score on Friday. They claimed a resounding 41-0 victory over Socorro. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Colts just coasted through the last quarter.

Hatch Valley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.8 points over those games. As for New Mexico Military Institute, their record now sits at 2-3.

Hatch Valley was dealt a bruising 42-0 loss at the hands of New Mexico Military Institute in their previous matchup back in September of 2024. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
