Softball Recap: Fitzgerald Comes Up Short

Fitzgerald had lost seven straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 3-22 to make it eight. They came up short against the Thomasville Bulldogs, falling 12-0. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Purple Hurricane's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Thomasville, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games.

For Thomasville's part, Khiler Oehlhof was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Oehlhof has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Fallyn McDougald was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Jaelyn Oehlhof, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs.

While Fitzgerald had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
