Basketball Game Preview: Otay Ranch Mustangs vs. Hilltop Lancers

Otay Ranch has gone 4-0 against Hilltop recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Otay Ranch Mustangs are taking a road trip to take on the Hilltop Lancers at 6:30 p.m. Otay Ranch will be strutting in after a victory while Hilltop will be coming in after a loss.

Last Monday, Otay Ranch was able to grind out a solid win over Escondido Charter, taking the game 49-36.

Otay Ranch's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maleah Porch, who went 7 for 13 on her way to 17 points and six steals. Porch is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played. Mackenzie Daffron was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Meanwhile, Hilltop was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 38-25 to Madison.

Otay Ranch is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points per game. As for Hilltop, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.

Otay Ranch was able to grind out a solid win over Hilltop in their previous meeting back in January of 2018, winning 42-29. The rematch might be a little tougher for Otay Ranch since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
