Preview: Westridge Tigers vs. Rio Hondo Prep Kares
Westridge is 1-9 against Rio Hondo Prep since February of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Westridge Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Rio Hondo Prep Kares at 3:30 p.m. Westridge is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
Last Thursday, Westridge came up short against Polytechnic and fell 42-29. Westridge has not had much luck with Polytechnic recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Meanwhile, Rio Hondo Prep was able to grind out a solid win over Providence on Tuesday, taking the game 49-38. The win was just what Rio Hondo Prep needed coming off of a 61-35 defeat in their prior contest.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rio Hondo Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sydney Diaz, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Diaz has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Avery Pollock, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds.
Westridge has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Rio Hondo Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Westridge was able to grind out a solid victory over Rio Hondo Prep when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 47-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Westridge since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
