Football Recap: Tahj Edwards' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lawrence over Shawnee Mission East

Lawrence had lost four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 0-5 to make it five. They took a 28-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Shawnee Mission East Lancers. The Lions were not able to make up for their defeat to the Lancers from their previous meeting back in November of 2024.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tahj Edwards, who rushed for 110 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Dooley, who rushed for 40 yards and one score.

As for Shawnee Mission East, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.5 points over those games.

Jack Reeves continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 274 yards and four TDs while picking up 8.8 yards per carry. His longest rush was for an incredible 79 yards.

Looking ahead, Lawrence will take on Shawnee Mission Northwest on Friday. The Lions will be up against the Cougars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 37.4 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Shawnee Mission East, they will welcome Shawnee Mission North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
