Baseball Recap: Lyons Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Lyons ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They walked away with a 9-4 win over the Downers Grove North Trojans. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 2-1 win on Monday.

Owen Cypress tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April.

On the hitting side, Justin Heydorn was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brady Koren, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Lyons and bumps their season record up to 22-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Downers Grove North, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-12.

Lyons does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Downers Grove North, they will challenge Addison Trail at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blazers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
