Softball Recap: Ponderosa Takes a Loss

Ponderosa extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-3. They lost 11-2 to the Cherokee Trail Cougars. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.

Ponderosa saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Annabelle Horan, who went 1-for-2 with one double. Another was Braelyn Sisk, who got on base in both of her plate appearances with two stolen bases.

As for Cherokee Trail, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-1. The match marked their most dominant victory of the season so far.

On Cherokee Trail's side, Sydney Cobb was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Cobb a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season.

In other batting news, Cherokee Trail let Tayah Burton and Emma Rice run wild. Burton went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Rice went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Rice also put up a run, which was her first of the season. Taylen Shaver was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.

Looking ahead, Ponderosa will challenge Arvada West at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Cherokee Trail, they will square off against Denver South at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
