Baseball Recap: Horizon Christian Academy Takes a Loss

Horizon Christian Academy had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 9-10 to make it four. They came up short against the Lanier Christian Academy Lightning, falling 9-2. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Lightning earlier this season, when they won 6-3.

Horizon Christian Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Bedford, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases. Bedford is becoming a predictor of the Warriors' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 7-9 when he doesn't).

As for Lanier Christian Academy, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by seven runs or more this season.

On Lanier Christian Academy's side, Tres Criste made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. That's the most strikeouts Criste has posted since back in February. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mikah Criste, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Hayden Davis was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Horizon Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lanier Christian Academy, they will face off against Young Americans Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.08 runs per game on average), something the Lightning will no doubt try to take advantage of.
