Jefferson is 2-7 against Sam Houston since September of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Mustangs will host the Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Jefferson not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since November 8, 2024 (when they won 35-7). Everything went their way against Highlands as they made off with a 34-14 victory. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Owls recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

One reason for the win was Jefferson's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for eight sacks. It was truly a group effort as Andrew Arredondo, Damian Ramirez, and Aaron Garcia picked up two apiece. Garcia also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 12. Julian Cervera got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Sam Houston got the win against Burbank on Thursday by a conclusive 40-14. Considering the Hurricanes have won three matchups by more than 21 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Sam Houston found their leader in sophomore Xavier Youngblood, who rushed for 39 yards and three scores, and also threw for 155 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Hurricanes are undefeated when Youngblood posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 1-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Mivieon Franklin Ross, who gained 92 total yards and a touchdown.
Sam Houston was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 232 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-5. As for Sam Houston, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
Jefferson beat Sam Houston 20-12 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Hurricanes' Damann Goode, who picked up 224 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Mustangs still be able to contain Goode? There's only one way to find out.
