Preview: Santa Cruz vs. San Lorenzo Valley
Santa Cruz is 9-0-1 against San Lorenzo Valley since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Santa Cruz Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the San Lorenzo Valley Cougars at 3:30 p.m. Santa Cruz's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for nine straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.
Santa Cruz fell victim to Scotts Valley's stalwart defense on Thursday and couldn't make it onto the board. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 2-0 to the Falcons, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.
Meanwhile, San Lorenzo Valley has not won a game since December 16, 2023, a trend which continued on Tuesday. They fell 2-0 to Scotts Valley.
Santa Cruz's loss dropped their record down to 4-8-2. As for San Lorenzo Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9-2 record this season.
Santa Cruz beat San Lorenzo Valley by a goal in their previous meeting back in January, winning 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Santa Cruz since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
