Basketball Game Preview: Orcutt Academy Spartans vs. Mission College Prep Royals

Orcutt Academy is 7-1 against Mission College Prep since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Orcutt Academy Spartans will challenge the Mission College Prep Royals at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Orcutt Academy sitting on five straight wins and Mission College Prep on three.

Orcutt Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They took down Paso Robles 77-58. The Spartans' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Elizabeth Johnson was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 34 points and 18 boards. Her evening made it 33 games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Iraya Bell-Jackson was another key player, going 8-for-13 to rack up 19 points.

Orcutt Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 33 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Mission College Prep didn't have too much trouble with El Diamante on Friday as they won 70-54.

Mission College Prep pushed their record up to 14-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points over those games. As for Orcutt Academy, their win bumped their record up to 21-4.

Orcutt Academy strolled past Mission College Prep in their previous matchup last Tuesday by a score of 54-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for Orcutt Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
