Basketball Recap: Monache Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Monache couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They took a 50-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sierra Pacific Golden Bears on Friday. The Marauders' loss signaled the end of their ten-game winning streak.

Monache lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Milly Rojas, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 15 boards. Those 15 rebounds gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Shelley Andrade, who posted 11 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Monache smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Nyang Ayuen was her usual excellent self, going 6-for-8 on her way to 15 points along with seven rebounds and three steals for Sierra Pacific. Ayuen has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Lylah Love was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Monache's defeat dropped their record down to 23-8. As for Sierra Pacific, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 23-8.

Monache didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 45-36 victory against Palos Verdes on the 6th. As for Sierra Pacific, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 66-61 win against Grant on the 4th.
