Preview: Otay Ranch Mustangs vs. Bonita Vista Barons
Otay Ranch and Bonita Vista are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Otay Ranch Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bonita Vista Barons at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Otay Ranch focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday.
Otay Ranch had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victor by a 62-40 margin over San Ysidro. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Otay Ranch has managed all season.
Otay Ranch got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Percy Whittaker out in front who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Adam Delacruz was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, Bonita Vista's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They lost to Mission Bay on the road by a decisive 56-38 margin. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Bonita Vista has scored all season.
Otay Ranch's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-15. As for Bonita Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-10.
Otay Ranch came out on top in a nail-biter against Bonita Vista when the teams last played back in January of 2023, sneaking past 76-73. Does Otay Ranch have another victory up their sleeve, or will Bonita Vista turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
