Basketball Game Preview: Mapletown Maples vs. Geibel Catholic Gators

The Mapletown Maples are taking a road trip to challenge the Geibel Catholic Gators at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.

Mapletown saw some tournament action on Friday. They took a 45-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of Carlynton.

Meanwhile, Geibel Catholic entered their tilt with Avella on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They managed a 54-49 win over the Eagles. Given the Gators' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 161st, while the Eagles are ranked 426th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Geibel Catholic's win came from a few key players Mapletown will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mallory Clemmer, who shot 4-for-7 from long range and dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 boards. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Henderson, who posted 15 points and five steals.

Geibel Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 11 consecutive matches.

Geibel Catholic's record now sits at 10-1. As for Mapletown, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.

Mapletown ended up a good deal behind Geibel Catholic when the teams last played back in February of 2024, losing 43-27. Can Mapletown avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
