Basketball Recap: Mica Mountain Takes a Loss

If Mica Mountain was riding high fresh off their 93-73 takedown of Sunnyside two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mica Mountain Thunderbolts fell 62-51 to the Judge Memorial Catholic Bulldogs on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Thunderbolts can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 113th in Arizona, while the Bulldogs are ranked 32nd in Utah).

Judge Memorial Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but JJ Apathjang led the charge by going 8 of 12 on his way to 20 points and five assists. Apathjang has been hot, having posted 20 or more points the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Longar Alor, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds.

Mica Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Judge Memorial Catholic, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-7.

Mica Mountain wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 76-70 defeat against Rancho on the 3rd. As for Judge Memorial Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-37 victory against Campo Verde on the 3rd.
