Softball Recap: Bayard Tigers vs. North Bend Central Tigers
Bayard extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-3. They lost 15-1 to North Bend Central. If Bayard was looking for revenge after losing 8-3 to North Bend Central when the teams met back in August of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
North Bend Central's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
For North Bend Central's part, Emma Rangeloff made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Rangeloff was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Hallie Mottl was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in September of 2024. Kylee Krieger was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Bayard will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Chadron on September 4. As for North Bend Central, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 10-0 win against Centennial on the 25th.
