Baseball Game Preview: Southland Academy Raiders vs. Westwood Wildcats

The Southland Academy Raiders will challenge the Westwood Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Southland Academy will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating Tiftarea Academy, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Raiders put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 8-1 victory on Monday.

Meanwhile, Westwood waltzed into their match on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Warriors a 9-0 shutout. The Wildcats' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three games.

Liam Rogers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, Karson Barwick was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Westwood is 6-2 when Barwick posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Sam Summerlin was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Westwood's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Southland Academy, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-16.
