Basketball Recap: Sonny Diehl Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Clarion-Limestone

There's no place like home for Clearfield, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They strolled past the Clarion-Limestone Lions with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 65-51. This was payback for the Bison, who suffered a 43-41 loss the last time these two teams met.

Clearfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sonny Diehl, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Diehl is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in each of the last five games she's played. Eve Helsel was another key player, putting up 24 points in addition to eight boards and eight steals.

Clearfield was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Clarion-Limestone's loss came despite strong showings from Hannah Beggs and Julianna Schwabenbauer. Beggs went 7-for-16 on her way to 21 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, while Schwabenbauer almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. That's the most rebounds Schwabenbauer has posted since back in December of 2024. Makayla Clinger also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Clearfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points over those games. As for Clarion-Limestone, their record is now 13-7.

Clearfield wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 59-54 victory against Tyrone on the 10th. As for Clarion-Limestone, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-45 win against Clarion Area on the 10th.
