Baseball Recap: River Valley Comes Up Short

River Valley dropped down to 7-9 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 7-1 to the Dodgeville Dodgers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dodgers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in April.

As for Dodgeville, they pushed their record up to 21-2 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games.

For Dodgeville's part, Caden Schneider made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Schneider has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Blake Stodola was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Boone Rickard also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Looking ahead, River Valley will take on Sauk Prairie at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Dodgeville will be paying especially close attention to the Blackhawks' game: after the Blackhawks face off against the Eagles, they'll take on Dodgeville again at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
