Basketball Recap: Coalinga Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Alikah Rafiu and Brooklyn Davis

Coalinga has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 44-35 to the Mendota Aztecs on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Horned Toads this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 36-34 back in January.

Coalinga's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Brooklyn Davis, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 18 boards, and Alikah Rafiu, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, Coalinga smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Coalinga's loss dropped their record down to 21-5. As for Mendota, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season.

Coalinga wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, an 80-17 win against Tranquillity on the 7th. As for Mendota, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-24 victory against Avenal on the 7th.
