Softball Recap: Russellville Snags Fifth Victory in Last Six Games

Russellville won against Hallsville on Tuesday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Indians beat the Eugene Eagles by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 10-9. This was payback for the Indians, who suffered a 10-0 defeat the last time these two teams met.

K'Lea Basnett was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off eight hits. Basnett was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Audra Whittle, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Karsyn Duncan also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Russellville is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Eugene, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Russellville will square off against Osage at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Eugene, they will take on Fayette at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
