Softball Recap: Wheat Ridge Wins Going Away Against Adams City

Wheat Ridge's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Adams City Eagles with a sharp 16-7 win. Considering the Farmers have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Haley Cross made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Hailey Piel was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Evelyn Detwiler, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Wheat Ridge hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The victory snapped Wheat Ridge's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-12-1 record. As for Adams City, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

Wheat Ridge wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 10-2 win against Conifer on the 4th. Adams City does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
