Basketball Game Preview: Newark Memorial Cougars vs. American Eagles

Newark Memorial hasn't had much luck against American recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Newark Memorial Cougars will host the American Eagles at 7:00 p.m.

Last Thursday, Newark Memorial was beaten by Moreau Catholic 68-38. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 717th, while the Mariners are ranked 165th).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Angelina Baca, who posted 17 points. Juliana Barbosa was another key player, putting up nine points.

Meanwhile, American had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past the Vikings with points to spare, taking the game 44-26.

This is the second loss in a row for Newark Memorial and nudges their season record down to 7-13. As for American, their victory bumped their record up to 15-4.
