Soccer Game Preview: Hoggard vs. Ashley

Hoggard is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Ashley is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Vikings will host the Screaming Eagle at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hoggard knows how to get goals on the board -- the team has finished with four goals or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Ashley likes a good challenge.

Hoggard is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Laney just ended the team's 15-match winning streak on Monday. Neither they nor the Buccaneers could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 4-4 draw. The result kept Hoggard happy, as they haven't lost a game since August 16th.

James Mclean and Harrison Dyer scored all four of Hoggard's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 21 goals.

Meanwhile, Ashley faced New Hanover in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Screaming Eagle came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wildcats, sneaking past 2-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Ashley's win bumped their record up to 14-3-3. Hoggard's draw makes their record 17-1-2 this season.

Hoggard beat Ashley by a goal in their previous matchup on October 9th, winning 2-1. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Screaming Eagle have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
