Baseball Recap: Southwest DeKalb Triumphs

Southwest DeKalb won the last time they faced Tucker and things went their way on Friday too. Southwest DeKalb sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 victory over Tucker. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by just one run.

Kameron Scott made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Allister Jennings, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Southwest DeKalb's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 6-8 when he doesn't).

Southwest DeKalb hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tucker struck out nine times.

Southwest DeKalb has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season. Tucker's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-18.

Looking ahead, Southwest DeKalb will challenge St. Pius X Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Tucker, they will venture away from home to face off against Lithonia at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Tucker is facing Lithonia at the right time seeing as Lithonia is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
