Basketball Recap: Gilbert Picks Up Fourth Straight Win at Home

Gilbert had won four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they bumped up to 6-2 to make it five. They walked away with a 59-51 victory over the Sunnyside Blue Devils. While the Tigers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

It was another big night for Malachi Jones, who dropped a double-double with 28 points and 15 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Medina, who shot 55% from the field on his way to 13 points and five rebounds.

As for Sunnyside, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6. The game marked their lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the loss, Sunnyside still got an impressive performance from Nathan Schofield, who went 9-for-15 to rack up 19 points in addition to six boards and five steals. Julio Martinez was another key player, putting up eight points.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Gilbert will take on Mesquite at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 62.71 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Sunnyside, they will challenge Higley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
