Softball Recap: Cedaredge Beats Basalt for Their Fourth Straight Win

Cedaredge strolled into their game on Saturday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Basalt Longhorns. The Bruins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by ten runs or more this season.

Tia Homedew made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Meri Hollembeak was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three doubles. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Kiera Stroh was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.

Cedaredge always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .762. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Basalt only posted an OBP of .353.

Cedaredge's record now sits at 4-0. As for Basalt, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Cedaredge beat the Longhorns by a score of 18-8 later that day.
