Baseball Game Preview: Leyden Eagles vs. Downers Grove South Mustangs

Leyden hasn't had much luck against Downers Grove South recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Leyden came up short against Downers Grove North and fell 5-1.

Leyden got a good showing from Elias Carrillo, who pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Carrillo is becoming a predictor of the Eagles' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 6-11 when he doesn't).

Meanwhile, Downers Grove South waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Lions.

Downers Grove South's win bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Leyden, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-12.

Leyden couldn't quite get it done against Downers Grove South when the teams last played back in May of 2025 as they fell 3-0. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
