Basketball Recap: Gila Ridge Comes Up Short

Gila Ridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 60-27 loss at the hands of the Cibola Raiders. The Hawks were down 44-21 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Kayla McCarrell was Gila Ridge's leading scorer, having posted ten points. Ella Gettings held things down on the boards with nine rebounds. Kaytlynn Washington took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

It was another big night for Mariana Vega, who dropped a triple-double on 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 14 steals for Cibola. With that strong performance, Vega is now averaging an impressive 8.2 boards per game. Avianna Salcedo was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Gila Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Cibola, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

Gila Ridge wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 43-40 victory against Kofa on the 12th. As for Cibola, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 69-45 defeat against Paradise Honors on the 12th.
