Preview: Burroughs Bears vs. Notre Dame (SO) Knights
Burroughs has been on the road for three straight, but on Wednesday they'll finally head home. The Burroughs Bears and the Notre Dame (SO) Knights will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Burroughs will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 145th, while Notre Dame (SO) is ranked 43rd).
Last Friday, the stars were shining brightly for Burroughs in a 49-33 victory over Holy Martyrs Armenian.
Burroughs' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Claire Hackney, who scored 18 points, and Elizabeth Amoroso, who scored 12 points along with nine assists and eight steals. That's the first time this season that Amoroso posted eight or more assists. Ashley Martin was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame (SO) pushed their score all the way to 55 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 56-55 to Crossroads. Notre Dame (SO) has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.
Burroughs' win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for Notre Dame (SO), their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Burroughs ended up a good deal behind Notre Dame (SO) in their previous matchup back in January, losing 51-35. Can Burroughs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
