Football Recap: Wheatley Takes a Loss

Wheatley extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Friday, dropping them down to 0-4. They were beaten by the Yates Lions 49-7. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1023rd, while the Lions are ranked 498th).

As for Yates, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 5.5 points on average this season.

A big part of Yates' win came down to the chemistry between Chris Brown and his top target Jordan Simmons. Brown rushed for 110 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries while Simmons rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Simmons' longest rush was for an impressive 64 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Wheatley wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 56-0 victory against Northside on the 25th. As for Yates, they have also already played their next contest, a 55-14 win against Worthing on the 27th.
