Basketball Recap: Greenfield-Central Drops Highest Score of Season Against Anderson

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Greenfield-Central). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the Anderson Indians 78-38. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while the Indians are ranked 283rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Greenfield-Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chaney Brown led the charge by dropping a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards. That's the most rebounds Brown has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Mcconnell, who posted ten points along with six steals and five boards.

Despite the loss, Anderson saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cambreanna Austin dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Kennedy Brown was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Greenfield-Central has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.2 points per game. As for Anderson, they dropped their record down to 2-17 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road.

Greenfield-Central will head out to face off against New Castle at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Greenfield-Central has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Anderson, they will be playing at home against Lafayette Jefferson at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
