Basketball Preview: Mira Monte Lions vs. Arvin Bears

After two games on the road, Mira Monte is heading back home. They will take on the Arvin Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Mira Monte comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 19 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.

Last Thursday, Mira Monte ended up a good deal behind the Bulldogs and lost 37-18.

Meanwhile, Arvin entered their tilt with the Trojans with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Arvin pulled ahead with a 56-55 photo finish over the Trojans. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Arvin had a senior duo take command as Roxana Fernandez dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten steals and Emily Soto scored 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Fernandez has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last five times she's played. Cassandra Torres was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds and two steals.

Mira Monte's defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-14. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.3 points per game. As for Arvin, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season.

Mira Monte was dealt a bruising 62-18 loss at the hands of the Bears when the teams last played back in January. Can Mira Monte avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
