Basketball Recap: Western Christian Takes a Loss

Western Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 40-36 heartbreaker at the hands of the Charter Oak Chargers. The Fighting Lancers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chargers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Western Christian lost, don't look at Cece Balderrama. Despite the final result, she posted 11 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Hannah Yamamoto, who had four points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Western Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Western Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Charter Oak, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

Western Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 36-29 win against Lucerne Valley on the 17th. Charter Oak and Chaffey will compete for holiday cheer at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
