Football Recap: Elgin Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Friday just wasn't the day for Elgin's offense. They were beaten by the Liberty Hill Panthers 65-0 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 761st, while the Panthers are ranked 246th).

Jeremiah Nicholson threw for 40 yards. Andre Simmons was his top target, picking up 40 receiving yards. On the ground, Michael Mejias rushed for 78 yards.

Liberty Hill got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Pierre Dylan Belinga out in front who rushed for 132 yards and three scores on only five carries, and also picked up 55 receiving yards and one touchdown. Dylan Belinga's longest rush was for an incredible 77 yards. Another rusher making a difference was Jack Travis Pitchford, who rushed for 119 yards and three TDs on only seven carries.

Elgin dropped their record down to 0-6 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Liberty Hill, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Elgin will square off against rival Crockett at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Liberty Hill is set to take on their familiar foe Pflugerville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,120 yards in their previous games.
