Baseball Game Preview: Brookstone Cougars vs. Marion County Eagles

Brookstone has gone a perfect 10-0 against Marion County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Brookstone Cougars will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Marion County Eagles at 4:15 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Brookstone is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Columbus. Brookstone put the hurt on Columbus with a sharp 12-1 victory on Thursday. The Cougars are really starting to get used to good results now that the team has won 11 straight dating back to last season.

Brookstone got a great performance from Chanwoo Kim as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only a hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Kim has posted since back in February of 2024.

On the hitting side, Brennan Neal and Luke Lowery did most of the damage at the plate: Neal scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Lowery went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. The dominant performance also gave Lowery a new career-high in hits (two). Maxwell Jones was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Marion County never let their opponents score on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Pike County 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since February 21, 2024.

Everything went Brookstone's way against Marion County when the teams last played back in March of 2020, as Brookstone made off with a 12-2 victory. Does Brookstone have another victory up their sleeve, or will Marion County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
