Softball Recap: Fairbury's Losing Streak Snapped at Six Games

Fairbury had lost six straight dating back to last season, but after bumping their record up to 2-5 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They beat the Fillmore Central Panthers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 9-8. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Jeffs also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2024.

Jordin Gill was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Morgan Hansmire was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

As for Fillmore Central, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5. On the bright side, the eight- run effort marked their highest-scoring contest to date.

On Fillmore Central's side, Mackenzie Salmon and Malorie Lawver stepped up to the plate in a big way. Salmon went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Lawver went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Lawver also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Calli Gonzales, who went 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Fairbury is taking a road trip to take on Adams Central at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Fillmore Central, they will square off against Aurora at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Huskies' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
