Football Recap: Maize South Mavericks vs. Hutchinson Salthawks
Maize South extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 4-4. They lost to the Hutchinson Salthawks on the road by a 47-28 margin. The Mavericks were down 40-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Maize South's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Stratten Ebers, who picked up 145 receiving yards and a pair of scores, and Reign Illian, who threw for 315 yards and three TDs. Ebers showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 63 yards.
As for Hutchinson, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-2. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Robert Hunter was his usual excellent self, rushing for 158 yards and one touchdown on only 15 carries, while also throwing for 121 yards and a pair of TDs. Those 158 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Jeremyah Gaito-Karanu helped out on the ground, rushing for 90 yards and a rushing touchdown.
As of now, neither Maize South nor Hutchinson have any future games scheduled.
