In Friday's non-league outing, the Ishpeming Hematites (Ishpeming, MI) basketball squad beat the visiting L'Anse Purple Hornets (L'Anse, MI), by a count of 72-56.

The Hematites (1-1) will now prepare for their outing against Norway (Norway, MI). The Knights go into the Mid-Peninsula outing with a 2-3 record. In their last outing, Norway was topped by Gwinn (Gwinn, MI), 50-33, in a league outing.

The Purple Hornets now hold a 2-3 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Houghton for a Western Peninsula match on Monday, January 7. L'Anse will confront a Gremlins team coming off a 69-59 league loss to West Iron County (Iron River, MI). The Gremlins record now stands at 4-1.
