The Kickapoo Chiefs topped the visiting Republic Tigers volleyball team by a score of 2-0 in Tuesday's non-league test.

The Chiefs now have a 5-1 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Camdenton for a Ozarks test on Thursday, September 16. Kickapoo will confront a Lakers team coming off a 2-0 non-league win over Reeds Spring (Reeds Spring, MO). The Lakers record now stands at 4-0.

The Tigers (1-2) will now prepare for their test against Stockton (Stockton, MO). The Tigers enter the non-league test with a 6-2 record. In their last test, Stockton gained a win over Bolivar (Bolivar, MO), 2-1, in a non-league test.

Kickapoo waited and waited, then made quick work of Republic.

Republic's Briana Goforth looks to hit the ball over the arms of Kickapoo's Jessye Maurer during their match on Tuesday night. The No. 10-ranked Chiefs swept the Tigers 25-17, 25-21 to end almost five hours of volleyball Tuesday at Kickapoo High School.

With both the freshman and junior varsity matches going to three games -- and with three of those six games being decided by just two points -- Tuesday's varsity match didn't start until nearly 9 p.m.

"It's a long night when the kids have to get here before the freshmen start, then they sit for four hours," Kickapoo coach Debbie Downs said. "We were anxious to play, that's for sure."

But Kickapoo (6-1) rolled out of the gate, jumping to leads of 5-2 and 9-5 in the first game before putting things away with a 7-0 run to go up 19-10.

"It was awesome," Kickapoo setter Zoe Allen said.
