The Marshall Eagles will face off against the Corona Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Marshall will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Marshall had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 58-32 margin over the Eagles. Marshall has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 contests by 25 points or more this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marshall to victory, but perhaps none more so than Destiny Ihiaso, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Jolynn Abilar, who scored 13 points.
Yeshiva University of Los Angeles (YULA) typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Corona proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 48-38. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Corona.
Corona's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Fia Liaga led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on nine points and nine assists. Ava Liaga was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Marshall has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. As for Corona, their win bumped their record up to 17-13.
