The Union Grove Wolverines will challenge the McDonough Warhawks at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Union Grove blew Ola out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Ola got their revenge. The Wolverines fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 9-7.
Alisha Cattuzzo was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, Lauren Jordan made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Aniyah Griffin, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous four matchup, McDonough brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They were the clear victors by a 17-8 margin over Stockbridge on Tuesday. The Warhawks not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since September 6, 2024 (when they won 40-25).
Ma'Kaylah Hull was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Kylei Buffington was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
McDonough always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Union Grove's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for McDonough, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Union Grove took their victory against McDonough in their previous matchup back in August of 2024 by a conclusive 16-1 score. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Warhawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
