The Stafford Spartans will head out on the road to square off against the Needville Bluejays at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Stafford has given up an average of 31.6 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Stafford is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 34 points last Friday, they were much more limited against Almeta Crawford on Friday. They were beaten by the Chargers 54-6. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-6.
Despite the defeat, Stafford had strong showings from Aiden Seales, who picked up 72 receiving yards and one score, and Nate Ray, who threw for 79 yards and one TD on only seven passes. Seales' longest reception was for an incredible 73 yards.
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last game, Needville made sure to put some points up on the board against Fort Bend Willowridge on Friday. The Bluejays blew past the Eagles 34-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Bluejays' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 379th, while the Eagles are ranked 822nd).
Stafford better keep an eye on Kobie Campbell. He was instrumental in Needville's win, rushing for 166 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. That's the most rushing touchdowns Campbell has posted since back in September of 2024. Another passer making a difference was Cameron Hall, who threw for 104 yards and one TD.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Needville proved: they limited Fort Bend Willowridge to a paltry 0.6 yards per carry. The Bluejays didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.6.
Needville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kase Vacek and Diego Hernandez.
Stafford's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-5. As for Needville, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Stafford was able to grind out a solid victory over Needville when the teams last played back in November of 2024, winning 17-10. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
